Title of the Study :

Recognition of Forest Rights and Livelihood Enhancement under PFM: Western Ghats

Description :

The basic objective of the study is to understand the economic and institutional changes that have taken place in the use and management of NTFPs due to Participatory Forest Management programmes. The study also assesses how well the Forest Right Act 2006 can be implemented within the present institutional framework of PFM Programmes. The study will be conducted by Jyothis Sathyapalan, Ajith Menon and Gopinath Reddy. Bauxite Mining in Eastern Ghats: Impact on Tribal Livelihoods

The basic objective is to study the extent of tribal dependency on forests and the likelihood of the deprivation as a result of Bauxite mining in Andhra Pradesh. The study also assesses the possible externalities (Socio-economic and environmental) of Bauxite mining. The study will be conducted by Prajna Paramita Mishra and Gopinath Reddy. Identification of Livelihood Opportunities and Challenges of Forest Dwellers of North Eastern India

Description :

The main objectives of the study are: Identification of livelihood opportunities and a strategy for the forest dwellers of the upland areas of North East, while ensuring ecological sustainability of the area. This study tries to Identify bottlenecks for promoting or supporting large number of livelihoods on these identified livelihood strategies. It will focus on specific interventions by the state and/or other agencies, required to overcome these bottlenecks and strengthen the livelihood strategies in the region. This study will be conducted by Prof. M. Gopinath Reddy and Dr. Prajna Paramita Mishra, in collaboration with the Livelihood School (A Basix Initiative), Hyderabad.
